Stand Up And Holler
LINK: Stand Up And Holler (Season 4, episode 20).
THEME: Girl space / power structure between girls / high school / cliques
TRIGGERS/SPOILERS: implied non-consensual sexual activity, abuse of authority, bullying, bullying, fat shaming.
SUMMARY: The 1997 murder of a 16-year-old girl is investigated after an anonymous confession is discovered in a modern-art exhibit. The probe leads the detectives into the cutthroat world of high-school cheer-leading.
WHY I LOVE IT: I love the main character, Rainey, and the outsider boy that gets through to her. This ep covers some of the same ground as The Sleepover and in a way, you could say that the popular kids from The Sleepover are the cheerleaders in this ep. Rainey's incredibly outspoken and I love the way that even from the start, you can see how there's spine in her that won't bend.
FAVORITE LINE: Vera : Who were you in high school, Lil?
Lilly : Definitely not the cheerleader.
Vera : Bad girl no one'd mess with?
Lilly : You could say that.
